THE YEAR 1940

The story of our company began in 1940. This was the year in which hairdresser Robert Schmidt, grandfather and great grandfather of the current CEOs, Robert Ewald, Matthias Ewald and Annegret Ewald, developed a mountain herb hair tonic made of herbs, flowers and leaves from Thuringia's meadows, forests and fields, all carefully picked by hand.

THE ENTERPRISE 1942

Entry into the commercial register under the name Waldfrauenkraut Robert Schmidt GmbH.

THE ENTERPRISE 1945

Expansion of the product range: Eau de Cologne, birch hair tonic and mouthwash were added.

THE ENTERPRISE 1950

HAIR CARE PRODUCTS FROM THURIGIA (GERMANY). The companies name changed into „Haarkosmetik aus Thüringen“. Main product has been perm lotion.

THE ENTERPRISE 1972

Nationalization of our company, which had been privately owned until then. Our company became the sole manufacturer of permanent wave compositions in the former GDR, sold under the combine's cosmetic brands "Florena" and "Londa". Thanks to their outstanding  expert knowledge, the former owners of the company, Gerhard and Robert Ewald, were employed in executive positions.

The whole Eastern bloc was supplied with our products to meet its demand for hair styling products. The development of our special product "STABILET" and our "FÖN-WELL-LOTION" was a milestone for the hairdressing industry.

THE ENTERPRISE 1990

Re-privatization of our company. The company continued operations under the name of Gebr. Ewald GmbH, in which WELLA AG held shares. The company started to work as a contract manufacturer for well-known cosmetic companies.

THE ENTERPRISE 1993

The success story of Gebr. Ewald GmbH continues with the introduction of the "Ewald Haarkosmetik" brand in Germany and across Europe. Products for hair care, coloration, hair forming and styling offer a comprehensive range exclusively for hair stylists.

THE ENTERPRISE 1997

Buyback of WELLA AG's shares. We have been independent ever since and have been holding our ground ever since - both on the German market and internationally.

THE ENTERPRISE 1998

Relocation to new headquarters in Nahetal-Waldau. Now the company had 9000 square meters of modern research and development facilities at its disposal.

THE ENTERPRISE 2000

At the Hairdressing World Competition in Berlin in  October 2000, we presented our new C:EHKO line, with more than 150 exclusive products for hairdressers. Since then we have been supplying our products to more than 20 countries around the globe.

C:EHKO 2007

RELAUNCH OF THE C:EHKO COSMETIC PRODUCTS LINE AND INTRODUCTION OF THE  C:EHKO ENERGY LINE

C:EHKO 2008

We move into our new C:EHKO sales centre. From now on we have an additional 3.100 square meters of space to ensure the best possible workflow in sales and logistics. 15 employees are entrusted with the day-to-day order processing and dispatch of C:EHKO products.

C:EHKO 2010

Our strong and highly-motivated team consists of 90 qualified employees working in the fields of chemical production, engineering, packaging, stock management, administration and sales.

C:EHKO 2011

Design for hair – the C:EHKO STYLE range is born. Gel, wax, hair spray and mousse now ensure the perfect finish. 

We are a strong team handling chemical production, technology, packaging, warehousing, administration and sales – together with around 100 qualified employees, we are constantly reaching new goals: We already have 5,000 hairstyling salons in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as customers and many more in over 30 countries throughout the world. We are looking forward to what the future brings.

C:EHKO 2015

The A. Ewald Friseurhaus (training centre for hairstylists) was opened in Fasanenstrasse 42, Berlin-Wilmersdorf on 23 January 2015.

Created by Annegret Ewald, it is a place for hairstylists to exchange knowledge and receive further training in a modern location. An open space on the Kurfürstendamm, the Friseurhaus is a milestone in the 75-year history of the German family company Ewald.
During the trade fair ‘Faszination Haar und Kosmetik’ in Erfurt, the Ewald family presented its new prof. cehko line at their impressive booth. Exhibiting in a space of 120 sq m, the company celebrated its 75th anniversary and the 15th anniversary of the C:EHKO brand, and also invited customers to a phenomenal, three-hour show. The C:EHKO creative team presented fascinating hair art at the international level.

C:EHKO 2016

We reveal Cleopatra’s secret to beautiful hair. The new prof. cehko premium hair cosmetics range is launched on the market. The new line includes over 40 products: new formulas based on the ancient wisdom of the pharaohs, combined with the demands of modern life and carefully developed with the passion of German perfection.
